Bella Thorne explains why she wants to play Lady Deadpool.
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s most anticipated releases. As much as people are waiting for the Fantastic Four, Deadpool offers something else. It’s a project that’s geared directly to adults. It’s an R-rated, raunchy, violent movie franchise that flourished while the other 20th Century Fox Marvel films were failing.
With Marvel Studios and Disney saying that the Merc With a Mouth will remain unchanged in his third feature film, you can believe that fans will flock to the theaters to see it when it is eventually released.
With a new movie comes new characters. Wade doesn’t have a lot of heroes and villains under his lore. Most of them are X-Men characters. One of them is his alternate reality self Wanda Wilson a.k.a. Lady Deadpool. If she’s used in Deadpool 3 or another project, Bella Thorne would be a great choice to play the role. And it turns out that she actually wants to play her.
Why Bella Thorne wants to play Deadpool
During an interview, Bella Thorne told Comic Book Movie about her desire to play the role and why she loves comic book movies, adding:
“Deadpool is my favorite. It’s so raunchy and, hello, who doesn’t love Ryan Reynolds? He just f***ing nails that role to the floor. What I love about Deadpool is that realism mixed with the, you know, superhero world. It’s something where we feel we can talk to this superhero now in today’s day while still having them be a superhero. I love that shit.”
When an actor or actress says they want to play a comic book character, it’s important to pay attention to how they say it. Bella Thorne’s emotion towards the character seems authentic. She says she wants all in on Wanda Wilson. On top of that, she loves what Ryan Reynolds does for the movie franchise. That’s key. If she genuinely wants in, she will crush this role.
We’ve seen her be goofy and serious – something she’s done across many of her roles and in music videos as well. Both qualities are key when playing any Wilson.
Ryan Reynolds may not be Deadpool forever. If he or Marvel decide to end their film series, the story could go on with a focus on Lady Deadpool, and Bella Thorne would be a great choice to play the role. And who knows. Maybe Lady Deadpool would just be the beginning. Perhaps the Deadpool Corps could be next.
The possibilities for the future of Deadpool in the MCU are exciting, and let’s hope that they include Lady Deadpool at some point or another.
